CVM3 Regional Workshop Presentation: Southern Africa

22 February 2023
Publication Type: Workshop Presentation

Global temperatures have already increased by 1.1°C relative to pre-industrial levels. Further climate change is inevitable and each fraction of a degree of additional warming increases the adaptation challenge for the vulnerable and poor. The five Southern African countries (Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Eswatini, South Africa) warm at above the global average.

  • How vulnerable is the Southern African region to this climate change?
  • What are the biophysical impacts on the environment?
  • How will this impact health, well being and the Southern African economy?

Based on the CVM3 Regional Workshop, and Brent’s Regional Report, this workshop presentation identifies the key concerns regarding climate change and its impact on the Southern African region. It highlights important policy recommendations which, if adhered to, will mitigate some of these concerns.
