Theresa Mazarire is a Doctorate student at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa. Her doctorate research focuses on climate change and public health, particularly the application of geospatial tools in malaria vector occurrence and mapping their distribution in South Africa. She holds a Master of Science degree in geographic information systems and remote sensing and an Honours in geography and environmental science. Theresa was named one of the 20 laureates of the International Awards L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science, in sub-Saharan Africa for her Ph.D. research.
Her area of expertise includes geospatial science, remote sensing, biodiversity, agriculture, and climate change science. Theresa currently works at Rabia Transitions as a climate science researcher, an African-based policy research initiative working on the financial sectors’ response to climate and biodiversity crises and just transitions.
