Prof Thando Vilakazi is Associate Professor of Economics and Acting Director in the School of Economics at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), and former Executive Director of the Centre for Competition, Regulation and Economic Development (CCRED) at UJ.
Since 2019, he has served as a Part-Time Member of the Competition Tribunal of South Africa (since 2019) and previously worked as an economist at the Competition Commission of South Africa and Acacia Economics.
Professionally, he has led academic research and provided teaching and consulting advisory services in competition economics and industrial policy across various economic sectors and for competition authorities, sector regulators, government departments, NGOs and private enterprises in South Africa and various African countries.
