Awardee affiliation: University of the Western Cape

I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics (Summa Cum Laude) in 2015 at the University of the Western Cape. I completed my Honours degree in Economics at the above mentioned University in 2016, which was funded by National Research Foundation (NRF), scheduled to graduate in April 2017. I am currently a postgraduate student undertaking a Masters in Economics at the University of the Western Cape. I contributed to the Economics department of the University in 2016 by working as a tutor. This year, I will assist with the tutorials and marking of the first-year Principles of Economics modules.

My research interests are macroeconomics, public economics and econometrics. My Honours research area was macro-based and mainly focused on services trade liberalisation and employment in South Africa. My Master’s research area is also macro-based. I received the Dean’s list Award for Academic Excellence in 2015, ERSA Award (2015) and Top Achiever in third year Microeconomics.

I am thinking to pursue my PhD in Economics in the future and a life in academia. I hope that one day my research will have a bigger impact in assisting the country in its development strategies.
