Economic growth creates opportunities in an economy and this research theme shows current research on this topic. It addresses structural constraints that hinder economic growth and employment, and identifies policy actions that raise income growth, increase productivity and inequality, as well as topics and issues for further research.

  • How can modern technology be leveraged to leapfrog previous challenges and overcome constraints in the economy?
  • How can policy address issues pertaining to labour reform, skills development, housing, digitisation, network industries and mechanisms to reduce poverty?
  • Which countries and international experience can we look to and synthesise to develop best practices in the South African context?
