The financial system faces unprecedented change at a rapid speed. New technologies offer new opportunities for incumbents and disruptors alike, but can also pose new risks for regulators. The past few years were characterised by a Cambrian explosion of startups who challenge incumbent institutions by offering new services or existing services in a new way. Recently, big tech companies like facebook, google, and apple, have made forays into finance and could possibly pose an even bigger challenge to incumbent institutions and regulators alike.
In this practitioner’s workshop, Economic Research Southern Africa (ERSA) and the University of Cape Town (UCT) host a workshop on 17 January 2020 at the UCT Graduate School of Business’ Waterfront Campus in Cape Town. All interested industry participants, regulators, academics, and students are welcome.
To register, please RSVP to co-pierre.georg@uct.ac.za with the subject line “Registration 2020 BigTech Workshop” no later than 10 January 2020.
