Worker Turnover and Job Reallocation: Evidence from Matched Employer-Employee Data

This webinar was presented by Måns Sonderbom from the University of Gothenburg. High worker turnover can have negative consequences on productivity and recruitment costs and increases time spent on training workers, yet it affects 38% of workers in Ethiopia at an aggregate level. Using evidence from Matched Employer-Employee Data from Ethiopia, Måns shares his research exploring the following questions:

  • What are the drivers behind high job flows and worker turnover in Ethiopia?
  • What is the relationship between worker flows and job reallocation across establishments?
  • What happens in establishments that pay above average wage benefits?
  • How do worker turnover rates in Ethiopia compare to those in Europe or the USA?
