Siya completed his Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Development Theory and Policy Cum Laude at the University of Witwatersrand in 2013. In 2012 he graduated with a Bachelor of Social Science in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from the University of Cape Town. Therefore he has a broad grasp of internationally applicable economic science and of the political and moral contexts in which it is applied.

Siya has interests in socioeconomic development, international politics and traveling. Analysis of the role of trade and finance in development is an important academic research focus for him currently and the foreseeable future. His honours thesis researched the impact of foreign direct investment on employment and inequality in South Africa since 1994. This is a highly contentious area in development economics with strong relevance in South Africa which is a country challenged by high unemployment and inequality. Also, his personal and professional development has been supplemented by extensive travel within the developing world – having visited Swaziland, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania and Zanzibar. Moreover, he has an insightful understanding of social formations, education, personal and professional development, organisational development and leadership.

Some of his proudest achievements include being awarded: the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Fellowship in 2008, the DTI Public Bursary in 2013, the Wits Postgraduate Merit Award, the Public Affairs Research Institute fellowship and the Economic Research Southern Africa’s Postgraduate Scholarship in 2014.  He certainly believes that he has a rich history and life experiences which have taught his various skills that are indispensable in the workplace. He also believes that his dedication and intellectual capacity will make an impact on society. Moreover, he hopes to continue using the skills and experience towards a greater good and rigorous intellectual output through his academic and professional work both now and in the future.
