Mahlatse is studying a Masters in Financial Markets by coursework and research at Rhodes University in the Department of Economics and Economic History. In addition, he will write industry exams required by local financial exchanges and financial markets authority of the United Kingdom. Upon completion he will be recognised by the JSE as trader and advisor, and by the FSB as portfolio manager. He will receive certificates issued by the South African Institute of Financial Market (SAIFM) and his name will be entered into registers maintained by the SAIFM and the exchanges.
Mahlatse research interests are in fixed income securities and credit risk. His honours research paper focused on the impact of credit ratings on the issuance of municipal bonds, a case study of the city of Johannesburg metropolitan municipality.
Mahlatse has been an Economics Intern in year 2014 at the University of Venda, Thohoyandou, in the Department of Economics. His duties was to assist in teaching, setting, and marking test papers for first year Macroeconomics course. He also marked test papers in second year Macroeconomics course, and third year The South African Economy course. He developed the teaching skills while an Economics Tutor in the Department of Economics at University of Limpopo in year 2011.
Prior to that he been a Finance Intern in year 2014 at Vhembe District Municipality, Thohoyandou, in the Development and Planning Department. He was in the agribusiness project at the Vhembe Fresh Produce Market. His duties were to service the farmer’s financial transactions, prepare salaries for the workers, and handle payments and receipts made at the municipality stakeholder.
In year 2008 he worked as a Service Consultant at Capitec Bank in year 2008 at Louis Trichardt. His duties were to primarily sell personal loans of the retail bank. Others duties included arrears management, bank teller, and resolving clients complaints. He exited to complete his undergraduate degree on a full-time basis.
Mahlatse’s goal is to be a financial economist and a visiting lecturer after his masters. His intermediate goal in the process is to be complete a CFA program and a PhD in Economics and Finance.
