In today’s competitive academic landscape, clear communication of research findings and adherence to ethical standards are crucial. This comprehensive training program is designed to equip PhD students with essential skills for success in academia and research. Through collaborative learning and active participation, students will engage in group discussions and case study analyses, and participate in group work to reinforce their learning.  

Key Components: 

  1. Academic Writing: Learn how to write clearly and concisely to communicate your research effectively.
  2. Research Ethics: Gain a deep understanding of ethical considerations essential for maintaining integrity in scholarly work.

Objectives: 

  • Enhance your academic writing skills by focusing on all components of research papers. 
  • Foster an understanding of ethical standards and practices in economic research. 
  • Network with peers and experienced researchers in your field. 

Instructor:

Yonas Alem is the Director of Academic Programs at Environment for Development (EfD) and Associate Professor at the Department of Economics, University of Gothenburg. Yonas brings a wealth of experience in development economics, focusing on risk, energy, and poverty dynamics in Africa and South Asia.  

Interested applicants are requested to register by completing the registration form below by Monday, 13 January 2025. Application decisions will be communicated by Wednesday, 29 January.

ERSA will cover the travel and accommodation costs for participants from South African institutions. Places are limited to 25 students and funding to attend the workshop is entirely at the discretion of the organiser.
