The founding father of this great Nation once said: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” Nelson Mandela. One of the brilliant minds in the academic community once said, “Try not to be a man of success but rather try to be a man of value and success shall follow,’ Albert Einstein. These men contributed to the development of human kind. They believed in a better society.

All I ever wanted was to be an Economist. I have always been fascinated by the world of Economics – one of the most complex systems known to man. I have a great deal of passion for the discipline of Economics. I have been in love with it since I was young. It stems from wanting to know how the real world works and how people behave when faced with limited resources and unlimited wants.

My Honours Dissertation was ‘Energy Efficiency in the South African Industry’. This is one of the most important issues that faces not only South Africa but the entire world. It not only affects the current generation but our future generations as well. This is the cost we are imposing on our future generation. At the end of the day, I believe everyone has a role to play.

I believe that education is the key to success, which is why I always give my all to my studies and this has led my good academic performance. I have also acquired knowledge along the way which has helped me grow as an individual. This is beneficial for me and the nation as well. This is why I have chosen to enter the field of academia and as such the University of KwaZulu Natal has decided to develop me academically by paying for my studies so that I can become a full time Lecturer in the University, engaging in research and contributing to the field of Economics.
