Call for proposals: ERSA/NT Research Fellowship
Economic Research Southern Africa and the National Treasury invite research proposals addressing the topics listed below under the ERSA Research Fellowship programme. Fellowships will be awarded to scholars whose proposal allows for fruitful collaboration with National Treasury economists and an advancement of our understanding of the policy questions specified in the South African context.
Proposals are invited on the following research areas of interest to the National Treasury:
a. Industrial policy and Competition Policy
b. Labour market Institutions and labour market performances
c. Tax policies – the economic effect of tax structure and tax incentives
d. Regulatory Burden – sector analysis
e. Effect of Tax Regime – sector analysis
f. Regional integration - sector analysis
The assessment of proposals will be on a competitive basis by a panel that will include National Treasury representatives. Interested researchers should submit maximum two page preliminary proposals that include the following information: title of the project, contact information (name, address, telephone, email) and general description of the project, including objectives and policy relevance, and a brief outline of the research methodology.
Proposals will be assessed on receipt, and the call for proposals will remain open until competitive bids have been received for all projects. The successful researchers will be invited to present a full research proposal to a seminar at the National Treasury. The researcher is required to produce a minimum of one working paper with ERSA, to present preliminary results to the National Treasury or ERSA workshops, and to give a final seminar to the National Treasury.
